Nasalwear
I researched the rising detrimental effects of air pollution and designed a "future artifact" intended to minimize its impact, especially on those that are most vulnerable. After research and sketching, I designed a prototype for a nasal insert called "Nasalwear" that uses magnet technology to stick to one's nose. It has replaceable filters to provide the user with clean air. I also created a rough prototype for an app that can track relevant information using the prototype, such as air quality in different locations and filter life.
Caste in Cutouts
I created a 3D installation of silhouettes about the historical caste system in India and its relevance in the country today. The caste system was a form of social hierarchy that categorized people into different classes from birth. During my trip to India, I observed and sketched people who would be categorized as belonging to each of the five main classes in India today. Using those sketches, I designed silhouettes of people, as well as background layers of silhouettes that symbolized their surroundings. I then created physical prototypes of my silhouettes and developed a 3D model of a box with slits and frames to hold my silhouettes in place. Finally, I composed a final version of my piece with carefully cut cardstock, pieces of foam, and matboard. The finished product was an informative and moving piece that detailed the unequitable treatment of different social classes in India, and how even after several decades of its abolishment, the caste system and the injustices it created still exist today.
Refining the TikTok User Interface
I identified the shortcomings of the TikTok user interface through user personas and a current flow visualization of the application, and designed a better alternative through mid and high-level prototypes.
